7th Class Science - 11.Transportation in Animals and Plants

Class- 7

Transportation in Animals and Plants

Introduction- Transportation is a basic and unique chapter of class 7 science.  Transportation involves the circulatory system in animals and in plants, like transportation of water and nutrients as well as food products.

                                        Transportation in Animals

Circulatory System- Circulation of blood and Lymph in animals that are involved in a system is termed the circulatory system.

Let's Discuss the components which are involved in the circulatory system. The system involves the Heart, Blood, Arteries, Veins, and capillaries.

Blood- It is a liquid connective tissue and a major component of the circulatory system. It consists of RBC, WBC, and Platelets.

RBC (Red Blood Cells)- RBC is the major component of blood, it has Hemoglobin. Hemoglobin has an oxygen-binding ability which plays a vital role to carry oxygen throughout the body. The presence of hemoglobin color of blood is red.

WBC (White Blood Cells)- WBC is known as a fighter of the circulatory system. It has a special ability to fight against foreign bodies if entry into the body.

Platelets- It enables blood to clot. Platelets combine when any exposure to animal tissue and form clotting. It stops the blood outflow from tissue.

Lymph- It is colorless liquid connective tissue. It has only WBC present in it. Hence, it is present as a disinfectant in the animal body. It secretes just after any cut or burns.

These are the components of the circulatory system. Now, we will discuss how the circulatory system works. Blood is being circulated throughout our bodies.

Heart- The heart is an organ that controls blood circulation. It pumps oxygenated blood throughout the body. The human heart has four chambers, two are in the upper and another two are lower side.

Atria- The upper two chambers are called Atria(Atrium= Singular).

Ventricle- The lower two chambers are called Ventricle.

Blood Vessels

There are two types of blood vessels present in our body viz. Arteries and Veins.

Arteries- Arteries carry oxygenated blood from the heart to the different parts of the body. These are deep sheeted in our bodies.

Veins- It carries deoxygenated blood from different parts of the body to the heart. It is palpable(feelable), as these are visible.

Pulse rate- The rate of pumping of blood per min is termed pulse rate.

Heartbeat- The rhythmic contraction and relaxation of the heart is called heartbeat. Doctors use stethoscopes to measure the rate.

Excretion in Animals

Excretion- The process of removal of waste materials from the body is termed excretion. The organs involved in this process are called the excretory system.

Excretion process- Waste materials are mixed with blood which enters into kidneys by blood capillaries. Kidney filters it and waste materials mixed with urine and stored in the urinary bladder. Finally, it excreted out of the body.

Ureters- Tube-like structure that joins kidney and urinary bladder. Urine is stored in the urinary bladder through this tube.

Urethra- The opening of the urinary bladder, which helps to excrete urine out of the body.

Transportation in Plants

Transportation of Water and Mineral

Roots absorb essential water & minerals from soil. Roots have hair like structures that help to absorb water and minerals. It also provide support to the plants to stand firm. Roots have two differnt kinds of vascular tissues named Xylem and Phloem.

Xylem It is responsible for transporting nutrients and water in plants. The root cells absorb water and minerals and transport it through xylem. This is unidirectional transportation.

Phloem  It transports the food produced by the leaves to all parts of the plant. This transportation is bidirectional and utilizes energy. This is known as translocation.
